Over the past several years, I’ve had quite a few adventures, most of which have not made it to social media. I am only now feeling a bit inspired to share and am in the process of curating some of those adventures here on the blog and in the form of image galleries. 11 years ago I was sworn in as a US Citizen in downtown Oakland, CA. Words can't express the pride I felt, and how monumental it was to officially become a legal citizen of the United States of America...surrounded by fellow immigrants from all over the world, and to be sworn in by our first black president. It was one of the most intensely emotional and inspiring moments of my life.
What a difference a decade and a year makes... Despite the intense and deeply painful transformation and purging taking place in our country, I still believe in the goodness and the importance of what the US stands for. My heart hurts, but it's open, and awake, and I am more committed than ever to become an active part of being the change and evolution we so desperately need to make happen. As an immigrant, as a Latina, as a woman, as a Peruvian and as a GLOBAL citizen - my presence and my voice matter now more than ever. 🇺🇸 🇵🇪 #immigrant #latina #proudtobeanamerican #rise

My Pisces soul also knew that I would need not just one mother, but two ♓️ and that both my mom and I would need help dealing with each other 😂 So we were both blessed with Parmen...more than a sister to my mom, and so much more than a “Tia” to my my sister and I, my aunt Parmen has been my godmother and second mother since the day I was born. Two seemingly opposite forces of nature - the best of both worlds 👯‍♀️ - to model myself after, to learn how to be an amazing woman, sister, mother, and aunt! I would need a mother who was brave, curious, hard working, resilient, entrepreneurial, charming, hilarious, adorable, loving, and kind. I got all that I needed and so much more! Today I am grateful for the best quarantine partner a girl could ask for...my gorgeous cuddle-butt, Bonita. This girl has been my ride or die for almost 13 years, and we have both been through some crazy s**t...all of which, and none of which could have prepared us for the last 5 weeks. Last night she was extra cuddly after I’d spent most of Sunday out running errands and braving the “world” for our survival...so she cuddled extra hard. Up in the nook, spooning, HARD. I loved and soaked in every second. Zoo & Whale Watching excursions were postponed, but a few of us still made it to Saturday Tacos & Margaritas at @hechoinseattle. 🥑 Full, fabulous, friend-filled birthday week...Just what the soul needed! ✨Sunday I crashed - exhausted but so full of gratitude & love!! 🙏 💖 thank you to my friends for coming out and helping me celebrate life - watching you all fall in love with each other was the sweetest gift! 💝🤗

Last week feels like a million years ago, and despite the current state of uncertainty, it feels important to remain focused on love! So I want to acknowledge, honor, and thank my dear friends, familia, and community for making me feel like the most loved and lucky girl on the planet. This birthday - your love was more potent and appreciated than EVER!! 💖 I decided for my big 4.0 that I wanted to have the best week / month / year ever - so I invited my Seattle tribe out for a variety of festivities throughout the week, and all were welcome to join if/what they felt called to. ✨Day 1 (actual bday) I took the day off to soak in love notes and connection with family and friends from around the world. Then I spent 4 hours at the naked lady spa 🧖🏻‍♀️ @olympusspa_lynnwood getting pampered and soaking in bliss....ahh...Lastly I joined some of my nearest and dearest for oysters and a toast at @ballardannex followed by delicious dinner @gatherseattle & decadent dessert @getyourhotcakes 🤤 it was a fabulous kickoff to a fabulous decade, and I feel so blessed to have friends like mine!! ✨💖🙏

I kicked off the eve of my 40th birthday this morn

I kicked off the eve of my 40th birthday this morning with the sweet gift of dance, community, and soulful connection. My tribe at Ecstatic Dance Seattle always offer such a gorgeous container to “unfurl” in such a safe and welcoming space. After months away, and all the craziness swirling these days, feeling so deeply grounded, embodied and connected was everything my heart, body and soul needed! My dance felt like a moving prayer, and joyful celebration of life. At the end, I was treated to a birthday “Om” circle that filled me with so much love, a powerful sense of belonging, and deep gratitude. 🙏

At one point during the dance I made it over to the altar, to ground and say a prayer. I gave deep thanks for 40 years of life, love, wisdom, and so many blessings. I gave deeper thanks for the pain, heartbreaks, and grief...for all of my angels, guides, and teachers who have held and helped me through all of it. For my family, friends, brothers, sisters, and ancestors. My heart felt full and warm...suddenly I felt a part of my heart that had held onto sadness for a very long time, soften, and become lighter... I felt to pick a card and it seemed as if I knew what it was before I turned it over. As I did I smiled and saw a reflection of my heart’s most precious and tender prayer...Soulmate. My gift today was a message from spirit that this person is on their way...just on time and not a moment too soon!💃🏻🕺🏻 I look forward to a year and coming chapter of life filled with even more joy, love, community, connection, music, and DANCE!! Aho. Amen! ✨🙏💖💃🏻✨ Thank you to my tribe, and my sacred sister friends who helped me kick off my birthday festivities today feeling so deeply loved...I love you ❤️
